Dynamic Behavior of Solar Chimney Power Plant: Power Generation Sustainability, Technical and Economic Efficiency and Environmental Protection

Researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology have studied the dynamic behavior of solar chimney power plants and concluded that with the optimal use of thermal energy storage facilities, the development and commercialization of this technology is efficient and competitive with fossil fuel power generation technologies. Amir Arefian, a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering (Energy Conversion) at AUT said: "Solar Chimney Power Plant technology is one of the most promising and reliable technologies of solar thermal power.
Referring to the features of the project, he said: "Solar chimney power plant, as one of the latest solar energy technologies, can be the most suitable option to compete with conventional power plants in regards of economic and environmental protection by not consuming water and not producing pollutants."
This research was supervised by Dr. Reza Hosseini Abardeh, Professor and Faculty Member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology.
