Introduction of the Aerospace Research Institute of Amirkabir University of Technology
 
Aerospace Research Institute has been established in the Amirkabir University of Technology with the support of the Iranian Space Agency in order to meet some of the country's research needs in the field of design, construction, and application of aerospace products, and is governed for the indefinite duration by the relevant laws. This institute has been the trustee for research and executive affairs of the aerospace programs of AUT, and is actively and continuously working since the summer of 2010.
 
Missions:
The goals of the Institute's activities are:
Establishing an appropriate structure for organized and continuous collaboration between university research and industry in the field of aerospace science and technology;
Creating technical know-how and capability for designing and manufacturing aerospace products;
Training of expert and efficient forces inside the country;
Providing appropriate employment for elite graduates and using and nurturing domestic experts in key areas needed;
Providing required and appropriate research facilities for aerospace research activities;
Defining and implementing multidisciplinary projects in the form of specialized teams to develop aerospace products and other advanced products based on developed technical knowledge;
Creating the necessary environment to attract and train susceptible forces through the publication of articles, journals, scientific books and educational pamphlets.

 
Types of activity and tasks:
The types of activities and tasks of the Institute are:
  • Providing engineering services in design and manufacturing aerospace products to relevant organizations such as the Iranian Space Agency, the National Aircraft Agency, the Aircraft Industry Organization, and continuously improving them in such a way that the Institute is always one of the major designers in this field.
  • Investigating and identifying the research needs of design, construction and application of aerospace products;
  • Implementing the fundamental, applied and developmental research projects for reaching the goals of the institute;
  • Providing the necessary and appropriate facilities for related research activities;
  • Establishing suitable frameworks for collaborative research with domestic and foreign universities and research institutes in order to improve the quality of research activities in  the Institute's goal relevant areas;
  • Providing advisory services to natural and legal persons based on scientific and research activities’ results;
  • Publishing journals, scientific books, educational pamphlets, and producing computer programs and software tailored to the goals of the institute, in accordance with the relevant regulations;
  • Conducting scientific conferences and presenting research achievements in the form of workshops in accordance with the relevant regulations;
  • Developing and extending research and engineering fields in the design, construction and application of aerospace products.

Institute's achievements list:
Obtaining knowledge of space systems and subsystems;
Obtaining space history for operational subsystems such as GPS, telemetry, Software-On-Board, Data Governance Board, etc.
Creating and operating test and integration infrastructures such as Cleanroom, Thermal Vacuum Chamber Laboratory, Vibration Laboratory, etc.
Nursing up to 400 scientists in aerospace industry;
Publishing scientific articles in domestic and foreign journals and conferences;
Concept design of the wing and body structure and the integrity of 150-passenger aircrafts for the first time in the country;
Having Aviation Design Standards approved by the National Civil Aviation Organization;
Holding Part-21 Certification from Civil Aviation Regulation of IR.IRAN;
Supporting related graduate and postgraduate theses;
