Researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology have succeeded in designing, developing and launching an Automated Hip Prosthesis Polishing Device for the medical industry.
Yahya Choopani, an AUT PhD student in Mechanical Engineering, and winner of the 22nd Young Khwarizmi Festival, and the research project manager, said: “in Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA), the femoral head of the hip prosthesis is still manually polished. The proposed device and method not only doesn't have a limit for polishing parts in terms of geometry, material, size and more; but also by designing a fixture has the ability to automatically process several parts simultaneously, thus causing automation.”
This project won third place in applied research in the 22nd Kharazmi Youth Festival.
The project advisers were Dr. Mohammad-Reza Raazfar and Dr. Mohsen Khajeh-Zadeh.
