Dr. Hamid Akbari-Moayer, an AUT graduate and the executor of the project "Manufacturing and Investigating Nanomechanical Properties of Cores/Shells Abrasive Particles Applied in Chemical Mechanical Polishing/Planarization (CMP)" stated: "Due to the unique properties of core/shell particles and the probability of getting multiple advantages simultaneously in one structure, these structures have been the item of interest in a variety of applications, including catalytic converters, solar cells, biotechnology, and drug delivery".
Referring to the work process, he added: "First, polystyrene particles were synthesized by soap-free emulsion polymerization (SFEP), and core/shell particles consisting of polystyrene particles as core and silica layer as shell based on Stober process, and then, the nanomechanical properties of nanoparticles (NPs) were investigated."
Notably, this project was supervised by Dr. Malek Naderi, a member of the faculty of the Amirkabir University of Technology.
